Stefania Milan

Stefania Milan (stefaniamilan.net) is the Principal Investigator of the ALEX project, and of its “mother”, the DATACTIVE project, funded with a Starting Grant of the European Research Council (639379) and exploring the evolution of citizenship and participation vis-à-vis datafication and surveillance (data-activism.net). She is Associate Professor of New Media at the University of Amsterdam. Her work explores the intersection of digital technology, governance and activism, with emphasis on critical data practices and autonomous infrastructure. She believes in bikes, mountains and self-organization.

Jeroen de Vos

As ‘lean approach coach’ Jeroen de Vos helped many starting enterprises designing and executing effective market research. He started freelance market research after finishing his bachelor degree in cultural anthropology six years ago, and has worked with and taught about social entrepreneurs in parallel to his academic endeavors. Within Algorithms Exposed he will be in charge of market research with the help of Alok Herath. He also recently got appointed project manager at DATACTIVE.

Claudio Agosti

Claudio Agosti

Claudio oversee the technical development of the platform, it is responsible for the initial concept, the first publications, and discover original methods to analyze algorithms. Split his time among the backend development, management, and advocacy roles. Bring ALEX in different contexts, because the commitment of making algorithm accountability a political issue it is deeply tight to the amount of functionalities implemented in the software, which depends on the diversity of the outreach. He’s looking forward in building a durable community around the project.

Lorenzo Cataldi

Hi, I’m Lorenzo and I cooperate in TRex providing UX design and front-end develop. Fond of graphics and communications since the high school years, I start to get interested in computer coding during my academic career in Philosophy, now I have all the tools necessary to carry out the User Experience and User Interface designer job: from the first sketches on paper, continuing with high-fidelity prototypes in photoshop to arrive, finally, to the drafting of the code. Umberto Boschi

Umberto Boschi

Umberto Boschi is an Italian researcher and self-taught data scientist living in Barcelona. After graduating in Philosophy in Pisa, he got a Master Degree in the field of Media Studies in the Netherlands. Later, he became Research Associate for the project Datactive at the University of Amsterdam. He contributed to FOSS projects and is now currently working as project manager for algorithms.exposed.
Tommaso Campagna

Tommaso Campagna

Tommaso Campagna is a research MA student in New Media and Digital Culture at the University of Amsterdam. His research interests focus on the intersection between social movements, digital activist and the alternatives forms of communication with a particular focus on the artistic language and visual culture. Within Algorithms Exposed he will collaborate on the communication and graphic design aspect of the project.
Martin Lopatka

Martin Lopatka

Martin Lopatka is a data scientist and research engineer at Mozilla. His research areas include machine learning, graph theory, and applied Bayesian statistics, with a focus on privacy enhancing technologies. Martin received his PhD in Statistics (2016, UvA) and MSc in Artificial Intelligence (2009). He contributes to data mining the corpora of the ALEX project and in an advisory capacity regarding privacy conscious data analytics. He is also a founding member of the Mercator Working Group (mapping disinformation [.] org).
Giovanni Rosetti

Giovanni Rosetti

Giovanni Rossetti is a Research Master student in Media Studies at University of Amsterdam. In his researches he inquires the evolution of workers’ imaginaries and job relations in the context of platform capitalism and algorithmic-mediated environments as well as the aesthetics of social movements, both online and offline, in the last decade.
Salvatore Romano

Salvatore Romano

Salvatore is in his final year of the Social Psychology master at the University of Padova in Italy. He is interested in the social effects of negative political campaigns and aims to combine both qualitative and quantitative approaches to social data for his researches.
